Where can I place my Rubymoonshine unit?

Rubymoonshine is safe to place on any non-flammable surface in any apartment, house restaurant or hotel. No ventilation is required.

How long will the ethanol last?

On maximum capacity, the RM units will burn 0,48 litres per hour, and on minimum 0,32 litres per hour depending on ventilation and draft.

Is the installation process difficult?

No, all RM units come pre assembled and just need unpacking. For bigger units instructions will be given.

Will my RM burner generate a lot of heat?

Depending on the Rubymoonshine model, it can generate from 2-6 kW/h increasing the temperature in a room 30-40m2 by around 3-5 oC.

How do I light my RM Burner?

Use long matches or a long lighter, otherwise dip the lighting rod provided in the ethanol slightly, light the lighting rod and light the unit using the lighting rod. See the How to light my fire page.

Can I use any other liquid, wood or paper to burn a Rubymoonshine unit?

No, all RM burners strictly use denatured Ethanol only.

How do I extinguish my RM Burner?

We do recommend burning the ethanol liquid completely. Should you wish to extinguish the fire earlier, use the key provided, slot the key into the holes of the slider, and slide shut. This cuts off the oxygen supply and extinguishes the fire immediately. The ethanol will not evaporate once closed if you leave the liquid inside the burner.

What is my RM unit made of?

All RM burners are made of a non-corrosive stainless steel. Housing units vary according to models.

Can I use my existing fireplace?

Yes, once the flue or chimney has been closed off and all utilities have been disconnected.

How do I clean my burner?

All burners can be cleaned using a soft clean and liquid stainless steel cleaners. The unit can be lifted out of the housing, once cooled and run under a hot water tap to remove traces of ethanol. It is normal for stainless steel to discolour over time when it is exposed to constant heat.

What is Bioethanol?

Ethanol is a natural alcohol produced by the fermentation of sugars originating from agricultural products, mainly sugar cane, potato, banana, beetroot and wheat. Ethanol can not be sold in its purest form to avoid human consumption. The ethanol is denatured with various substances for re-sale purposes.

Is Bioethanol dangerous?

No, our RM bioethanol is nothing else than 96.5% alcohol which is denatured, i.e made unfit for human consumption. In comparison to gel, bioethanol burns clean and residue-free, not leaving any unpleasant odours or fumes in your home. When burning it dissolves into water and CO2. Also using bioethanol reduces the CO2 emission by 80% in comparison to burning gas, coal or oil.

Is it dangerous to inhale?

No, it consists of plain water and a bit of carbon dioxide.

How is the ethanol liquid supplied?

The ethanol is supplied at various outlets in easy to pour 5 litre bottles. We do recommend using a jerry can, for easier pouring.

Does it smell?

There is no smell when a RM is burning. There is a slight smell once the flame is extinguished, similar to when you blow out a candle. The smell will soon dissipate into the air. Ethanol has its own unique scent, as with gas and wood. We recommend using aromatherapy oils, e.g vanilla

How do you store ethanol?

With lids firmly closed, in a well ventilated and cool area. It is classified as a Flammable liquid Class 3. Care must be taken with open flames.

Returns Policy?

Returns will only be accepted once contact has been initiated with Rubymoonshine. Faulty products within the warranty period can be returned at our cost, for repair and if unsuccessful, replacement.

Should a purchased product not operate as intended or be classified faulty within 14 days from receipt, Rubymoonshine will cover collection and redelivery costs of your item. This does not cover wilful neglect and failure to follow instructions. After 14 days but still within the warranty period, should you wish to return your product, delivery costs will be for your account. If the product is faulty Rubymoonshine will repair or replace the item and redeliver the item at Rubymoonshine´s cost – as fast as possible. Should Rubymoonshine be unable to repair or replace, you will be refunded the initial cost if the item in question as per your invoice.

Goods delivered that are unwanted may be returned for a refund within 5 business days from date of delivery. All returned goods must be returned in their original packaging (undamaged, unused), and unopened. These goods will be subject to a 25% handling charge. Delivery costs will in no way be refunded. The costs of returning unwanted goods will not be for Rubymoonshine´s account.

Delivery charges are variable and Rubymoonshine reserves the right to requote delivery on a processed order. It is your responsibility to ensure that the correct delivery address is provided during the ordering process – any additional delivery costs due to wrong or incomplete addresses will be for your account. This applies to packages considered undeliverable (when there is no answer at provided address, or no-one authorized to accept the delivery) too.

1. Pour ethanol into the burner using either the 5 litre bottles or your own jug. Rubymoonshine recommends using a jerry can (not supplied) with a long nozzle attachment (can be purchased from any hardware or plastic shop). Pour in the recommended amount or fill to just a finger or more from the top of the burner. Do not overfill.

2. Using the solid stainless steel key included, dip the key into the ethanol.

3. Carefully, using a lighter (not included) light the ethanol on the key on the side that was dipped into the ethanol from the burner. Keep holding the other end of the handle as far back as possible. Return the key back to the ethanol with the side that is slightly on fire-as picture 2.above. Do not bend over the fire. Keep your body and hands as far back as the key.

4. Once your fire has been lit, allow the ethanol to heat up and let your flame turn from blue to a golden yellow. Leave your fire to burn out completely, we do not recommend the burner as a storage device.

5. To extinguish your fire, or even to regulate it, place the key with the hole side onto the two knobs on the burner. Insert the knobs into the holes and slide the mechanism shut quickly. Should the fire not extinguish, reopen and repeat process.
